Quetzalcoatl

Mayan, Olmec, Mixtec, and Aztec Designs

Quetzalcoatl known as Kukulcan by the Mayans, was known throughout Mesoamerica as a feathered serpent. Similar to Jesus Christ he was considered a prophet and messenger of peace. He brought the people seeds and taught them to cultivate and grow corn, beans, and other food.

Tonantzin is the Mother of the Corn, a sacred plant to the Mesoamericans. Many believe that "Our Lady of Guadalupe" is a "christianized" version of Tonantzin.

The Jaguar is seen throughout the cultures of Mexico and Central America. The jaguar is considered the master of thresholds, having the ability to move between the spirit world and back again. He brings prosperity and fertility to the people. The mouth of the Jaguar and the Serpent are believed to be a portal to the underworld.
